CSS Profile

Many schools require the CSS Profile in addition to filing the FAFSA. Here is a link to the Participating Institutions:

https://profileonline.collegeboard.org/prf/PXRemotePartInstitutionServlet/PXRemotePartInstitutionServlet.srv

If you need help filing out the CSS Profile, there is a free help tutorial available through Khan Academy:

https://www.khanacademy.org/college-admissions/paying-for-college/financial-aid-process/a/css-profile-walkthrough

Because there is a fee associated with the CSS Profile, we recommend you call the college or university to see if it is a necessary document. Answers will vary based on the institution.

LinkedIn University Finder

You have to set up a LinkedIn account to use this resource, but I found it quite interesting. For example, when I selected the field "Communication, Journalism and Related Programs," and indicated I had an interest in working at NBCUniversal (in the United States), I got some good college matches.

University Finder pulls data from its profiles to find out which schools and degrees translate into jobs at certain companies.

Video Contest

The American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), is sponsoring a student transportation video contest.  Now in its fourth year, this contest asks students to create a video about any aspect of transportation in the United States. The top two winning videos will win a $500 cash prize.  In past years, esteemed videos have received recognition in the transportation industry. This could be a beneficial project for a class, a student organization, or any student interested in current events. We would appreciate it if you would share this information with your students, classes, and anyone who may be interested in submitting a project.  The winners, along with other submitted videos, may be shown at the ARTBA National Convention in September.  Entrants may work in teams, but only ONE prize is awarded per video.  Submitted videos may also be featured on the ARTBA website, screened on YouTube, and/or other promotional venues.

Applicants must submit a 2-4 minute video examining any aspect of transportation in the United States by August 1 in two categories:

• Category One: Entrants are in elementary, middle or high school.  This includes high school students who graduated in 2014 but may be planning to continue their studies at a post-secondary institution.
• Category Two: Entrants are currently enrolled in a post-secondary, college or graduate school program.

More information can be found on the attached flyer and at our video contest website: http://www.artba.org/video-contest/

ARTBA’s goal is to raise awareness of the importance of transportation infrastructure, enrich student academic experience, and highlight the talents of today’s students.
