Turning the Tide in College Admissions

This report is (in my opinion) one of the most exciting recent trends in college admissions.  It has the potential to promote more caring behaviors and community involvement in adolescents while reducing the pressure of college admissions by addressing the student's perception that they need to overload academically and extracurricularly to stay competitive.

Many prominent individuals in higher education came together to write Turning the Tide. More emphasis will be placed on the applicant's concern for the common good and the dialogue defining a "rigorous course load" has begun. There will be reduced pressure on students to overload his or her schedule with AP and IB courses, and the stress associated with standardized testing is addressed.

Also, there is a good podcast on iTunes if you search for Getting In: Your College Admissions Companion, January 22nd broadcast, Researchers Call for Bold Changes in Admissions.

College Fair - March 9th

You and your students are cordially invited to the NJACAC Regional College Fair hosted at Kean University on Wednesday, March 9  from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. NJACAC's College Fairs Committee creates "Regional Fairs" for the convenience of students, parents, and admission and high school counselors.
Last year, over 200 colleges and universities helped to make the 7 regional fairs in 2014-2015 very successful. The Regional College Fair at Kean is the only remaining NJACAC fair in Spring 2016 with school-day programming! Some of the other benefits of attending the Regional College Fair include:
  • Guiding your students through the benefits of a college fair
  • Going on a tour of Kean's world-class campus
  • Speaking with admissions representatives from a variety of unique schools
The Kean University community is looking forward to having you and your students on our world-class campus!
