Using PSAT Results for SAT Practice on Khan Academy

Dear Colleague:
Last month, your students received scores from the 2017 PSAT/NMSQT® along with access to free, personalized SAT® practice resources on Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy®.
To help your students access these resources, we invite you to participate in SAT Practice Kickoff Week, January 22–26, 2018. This challenge encourages students to take the next step on their journey to college by linking their College Board and Khan Academy online accounts and unlocking their free, personalized SAT study plan. Research shows that studying on Official SAT Practice for 20 hours is associated with an average score gain of 115 points from the PSAT/NMSQT to the SAT—nearly double the average score gain compared to students who don't use Khan Academy.
Institutions with the highest percentage of 2017 PSAT/NMSQT test takers who link accounts will be recognized for their efforts.
Find more information on the challenge—including tools to mobilize staff and students—and visit satpractice.org/k12 for additional resources.

Addiction Support from The Partnership for Drug Free Kids and The MC Office of MH and Addiction Services

As you all know, substance use is on the rise in our communities. Overdoses have skyrocketed and the age of first use in NJ has gone down. You have seen the commercials and billboards, read it in the news, and you hear it on the radio. Chances are you personally know someone who battles addiction.

I have attached two helpful documents from Partnership for Drug Free-Kids. These documents can help guide families on what to look for and what to ask when searching for treatment options for their youth.

BU Financial Aid Reminder

We would like to remind you that Boston University's deadline for financial aid applications is February 1, 2018. We encourage all students and their families to explore opportunities for financial assistance.
Boston University requires applicants to file certain forms:
  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • CSS Profile?
  • Please note that if the applicant's parents do not share the same household, the parent the applicant does not live with must also complete a CSS Profile. If getting that parent to complete a Profile will be impossible, applicants must submit a CSS Profile Waiver Request for the Noncustodial Parent.
We offer several Tips for Completing the Profile and FAFSA on our website. Please encourage your students to read the acknowledgement emails they receive from the Profile and FAFSA processors after filing these forms. These emails may include additional stepsthat must be taken to complete their financial aid applications.
Students who apply for financial aid by February 1 can expect to receive a financial aid decision with their admission decision in late March.

If you or your students have questions about Boston University's financial aid process, please contact BU Financial Assistance at
finaid@bu.edu or 617-353-2965. I truly appreciate your help in making this important information available to your students.
We are hosting a virtual information session on Tuesday, January 9 at 5:00 p.m.Eastern Standard Time to answer questions about the financial aid application process. Please encourage your students and their families to attend.
